We’re hiring! European Applications Scientist/Account Specialist position available!

IonOptix is a leading global provider of preclinical cardiovascular research instruments. We offer high-quality systems for measuring calcium and contractility in cardiomyocytes, muscle tissue, and blood vessels, as well as innovative solutions for electrical and mechanical stimulation of cultured cells. We’re looking for someone with the confidence and credibility to sit down with an investigator and troubleshoot an experiment, and someone skilled at building the kind of relationships that keep labs coming back to us for their research.

🎯 Goal of the role

The Applications Scientist/Account Specialist position at IonOptix covers customer-facing aspects from pre-sales consultation to post-sales technical and scientific support. Your goal will be to ensure our customers receive the instruments that best serve their experimental needs and know how to use them to collect, analyze, and interpret data accurately and reliably. You’ll be the person a lab calls before they buy, during their installation, and two years later when they’re publishing with our systems and need help pushing their work further.

πŸ“ Location: Amsterdam, Netherlands; up to 2 days/week remote
⏰ Hours: 40 hours

What You’ll Do:

  • Pre-sales consultation: Work directly with researchers to understand their experimental goals and recommend the right instrumentation and methodology.
  • Post-sales training & support: Install systems, train lab personnel, and serve as the ongoing technical point of contact for troubleshooting, method development, and protocol optimization.
  • Account ownership: Manage relationships across a defined territory; nurture opportunities through timely, thorough, and thoughtful correspondence.
  • Field presence: Represent IonOptix at scientific conferences and customer sites across Europe, building trust and credibility through scientific and technical depth.
  • Voice of the customer: Feed field insights back into marketing, applications support, and product development so we keep building what researchers need.

πŸ‘€ What we’re looking for:

  • A strong background in physiology, cell biology, or a related life science discipline; gained through a graduate degree or hands-on lab/instrumentation experience. We are looking for someone with the ability to think like a scientist and speak the language of the lab.
  • Comfort with hands-on instrumentation and not intimidated by hardware, software, and troubleshooting on the fly in the lab.
  • A genuine interest in the commercial side of science: relationship-building, account management, and closing the loop between a customer’s research question and a solution.
  • Strong communication skills across audiences from a graduate student running their first experiment to a PI deciding on a six-figure capital purchase.
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly (25%+) for site visits, installations, training, and conferences.
  • Self-direction; you’ll often be the only IonOptix presence in the room and need to represent the full range of what we do.

βž• Nice to have:

  • Experience working with cardiomyocytes and other cardiac preparations would be advantageous.
  • Direct experience with IonOptix instruments would be ideal.
  • Prior experience as an applications scientist.

🀝 About the team

We are a small, hands-on team where people take ownership and help each other. We work in a non-corporate environment and understand the importance of balancing work and personal life. Many people have been with us for 10–20+ years, which says a lot about how we work together.Β

Our goal is simple: help scientists see deeper and discover faster, while building a company people are proud to work for.
